Ministry of the Interior, now called the Ministry of the Interior. THE PRESS.

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, through the Ministry of the Interior, canceled the legal personality of 16 non-profit organizations (NGOs/NPOs), nine for non-compliance with laws and seven for “voluntary dissolution of members,” according to ministerial agreements published this month. Tuesday, January 16 in the official newspaper La Gaceta.

This new package of cancellations, the second in the 16 days of the year, includes Catholic and evangelical associations, as part of the repression once morest religion that the dictatorship deepens day by day.

Ministerial Agreement 03-2024 establishes the cancellation of nine NGOs “for non-compliance with laws”, because they supposedly did not report their financial statements for periods of between one and 14 years according to fiscal periods, with detailed breakdowns of income and expenses, trial balances, details of donations (origin, provenance and final beneficiary) and boards of directors:

1 Pentecost Mission Association Jehovah Will Provide.

2 Estelí Country Club.

3 Consecrated Missionaries of the Holy Savior Foundation.

4 Evangelistic and Prophetic Apostolic Mission Association

5 Niñ@ del Fortín Association.

6 Missionaries Association of the Company of Mary.

7 New Restoration Family Church Foundation.

8 Societa Dante Alighieri Foundation of Nicaragua.

9 Transworld Missions Association of Nicaragua.

Confiscated property

As is customary, the Ministry of the Interior delegated to the Attorney General’s Office to carry out the transfer of the movable and immovable property, which for critics means a confiscation.

While Ministerial Agreement 04-2024 establishes the agreement for “voluntary dissolution of members” to approve the cancellation of the legal personality and registration of seven non-profit organizations:

1 Evangelical Life Fraternity Association of Missionaries of the Cross.

2 Association Group of Emotional Support Professionals.

3 Marriage Ministry Association on the Rock.

4 Fundación 21 Down Syndrome Nicaragua.

5 Tabernacle of David Church Association.

6 El Redentor Pentecostal Church Association.

7 The Pulsera Project.

The voluntary dissolutions of NGOs, analysts have said, mean that they have been forced to close “voluntarily” to prevent the Ortega dictatorship from keeping their assets, as occurs in the case of canceled organizations.

Since 2018, more than 3,500 NGOs have been canceled, according to the count of Nicaraguan organizations working in exile. The cancellations began with nine NGOs in 2018, amid armed repression once morest civil protests. These first canceled NGOs were represented by opponents and/or critics of the Daniel Ortega regime.

So far in 2024, there are already 20 canceled organizations.
