Niamey: ECOWAS mining and oil companies gathered at the Ecomof forum

#Other countries : After Accra (Ghana) in 2015 and Abidjan in 2018, it is the turn of Niamey, the capital of Niger, to host the 3rd edition of the ECOWAS space mining and oil forum (Ecomof 2022), the February 16 to 18, at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Center.

Everyone involved in mining and oil from the 15 ECOWAS countries met in Niamey for this meeting which, like the previous ones, aims to promote the mining and oil sectors. It is a question of making these sectors the real levers of the economic and social development of West African States.

This event is jointly organized by the ministries in charge of oil and mines of Niger, the communication of ECOWAS and the international event firm AMEtrade Event.

It is an opportunity for Niger in particular, and the countries of West Africa in general, to highlight their potential in the extractive industries sectors thanks to the sharing of experiences and know-how but also by the creation of new partnerships and networks.

“The choice of Niger to host this 3rd edition of Ecomof is not fortuitous. Indeed, the subsoil of Niger contains significant mining and oil resources, in particular uranium, gold, iron, rare earths, phosphate, coal, oil and natural gas. Niger has also been an oil producer since 2011, and the country intends to increase its production capacity from 20,000 to 110,000 barrels per day by 2023, thanks in particular to the construction of the Niger Benin export pipeline, 1,950 km long, the longest from Africa, etc.”, explained the Minister of Petroleum Mahamane Sani Mahamadou

The theme of this 3rd Edition of Ecomof is: “Integrating the mining and oil industries into the development of regional value chains”.

“West Africa represents 30% of proven oil reserves and 30% of proven natural gas reserves in Africa. The region also has 40% of the world’s resources of bauxite, uranium and significant world-class iron deposits, not to mention gold, manganese, nickel, phosphate, diamonds, etc. the ECOWAS Commissioner in charge of Energy and Mines, Sédikou Douka.

This 3rd edition of Ecomof is also an opportunity to think more regarding how to promote the entry of the ECOWAS space into the African Continental Free Trade Area (zlecaf)
