The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted inspections at the houses of Popular Front leaders and workers at 9 places in Kannur district. The inspection started at 3 am yesterday and lasted for several hours. The inspection was carried out by NIA officials from Delhi and Kochi units with the help of customs and police. Mobile phones, SIM cards and memory cards were seized. 3 mobile phones and 2 SIM cards were seized from the house of PP Afzal, a native of Kakkad and former divisional secretary of PFI.

Afzal suffered physical difficulties during the examination and was admitted to a private hospital. 3 SIM cards and 2 memory cards were seized from the house of Muhammad Ramsheed, a native of Kizhutalli. Ramsheed works in an IT firm in Bengaluru. A mobile phone and books related to Rehab Foundation were seized from the house of CK Afzal, a native of Newamahi Paral. 3 mobile phones, bank passbook and 5 books have been seized from the house of PV Anas in Valora, Chavasseri, Mattanur. Anas is abroad. Family members were at home.

Popular Front district president AP Mahmood’s house in Mattul and his wife’s house were searched at the houses of Valapatnam native VK Nauphal, Pappinissery native CC Anas, Kannur city’s PP Muzafir and Hashif and Hashif’s wife’s house in Edakadu. NIA ASP Subhash Chand, Inspectors Naveen, Mayank Jyotivarma, Mukesh Kumar, Naveen Chand, SIs Ulkarsh Bansal, Babu, Sajalkumar Sarkar and Suresh Kumar led the investigation.
