Nia Imani Franklin: The New Miss America 2018 without Bikini and Evening Dress Parades

Nia Imani Franklin, representative of New York, was crowned the 92nd Miss America on Sunday evening in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event took place without the traditional bikini and evening dress parades.

After her crowning, the now Miss America said she considers herself a truly blessed girl.

“I want to thank God because without him I wouldn’t be here. It took a lot of perseverance to get here and I just want to thank my beautiful family for coming, my dad in particular who is a cancer survivor and I love him so much. She also expressed her gratitude to her supporters. I want to thank all the other competitors. We had a wonderful week together and I love you all. »

Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Franklin is an opera singer who earned a master’s degree in music composition from the UNC School of the Arts. She moved to New York following being accepted into the Kenan Fellow program at Lincoln Center Education in Manhattan.
