“NHL Vacancies: Coaching and Management Changes and Rumors”

2023-05-07 14:05:20

Since the regular season ended in the National Hockey League, several teams disappointed with the turn of events of their season have proceeded to a major cleaning.

Indeed, several teams have fired their head coach and even their general manager.

In addition, teams that were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs were recently added to this group of teams.

We therefore now find ourselves with several vacant posters across the NHL, either behind the bench as head coach, or in the offices as general manager.

Among these teams that have cleaned up, we find the following:

  • Calgary Flames – Vacancies: Head Coach and GM
  • Pittsburgh Penguins – Vacancy: GM
  • New York Rangers – Vacancy: Head Coach since yesterday
  • Washington Capitals – Vacancy: Head Coach
  • Anaheim Ducks – Vacancy: Head Coach
  • Columbus Blue Jackets – Vacancy: Head Coach
  • Philadelphia Flyers – Vacancy: President
  • Ottawa Senators – Vacancy: Owner

This therefore leaves room for a summer that will be very busy in terms of hiring personnel in the NHL.

Who says vacancies, says endless rumours.

Well, there have been several rumors already, the most recent of which concerns former Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman.

Indeed, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Calgary Flames would be among the teams interested in his services.

This means that Stan Bowman could very well be back in the offices of an NHL team, surely as general manager.

We remember that Bowman was not, let’s put it this way, a very good GM in Chicago to remain polite, especially in connection with the Kyle Beach scandal.

It is therefore a certain surprise to see his name come back in the rumors, but at the same time, we know very well that the NHL is in general a small click that likes to recycle the same people.

Another rumor, this one behind the bench, is that Joel Quenneville is not an option for the New York Rangers for their now vacant head coaching position.

So this sort of silences the rumor that came out earlier this week.

This is surprising news considering that Joel Quenneville is seen as an excellent coach throughout the NHL, despite his past with the Kyle Beach saga with the Blackhawks.

This therefore leaves the door open for other teams without a coach to hire Quenneville.

Finally, we remember that we learned yesterday that Gerard Gallant was no longer the head coach of the Rangers.

It’s clear that Gallant didn’t leave so much money on the table to be unemployed.

The former CH therefore surely knew that several teams would be interested in his services.

It remains to be seen where he ends up next season, and who will replace him in New York.

Kevin Weekes had mysteriously linked Patrick Roy to the Rangers after the announcement of Gallant’s departure.

A lot of

– Happy Birthday Josh!

– Lots of action today.

– It’s really going better for CF Montreal!

– It’s sad that it’s not enough to attract long-term players.

– Indeed, they will make a lot of money.
