NHL transactions: Oilers and Kings want to add a defender

The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings are in a fight not just for Pacific Division standings, but to get their hands on some players before the trade deadline.

According to our collaborator with The AthleticPierre LeBrun, the two teams are looking to add a left-handed defenseman to their ranks, which means that they have interest in the same targets.

During his segment at Hockey 360LeBrun put forward the names of Jakob Chychrun, Joel Edmundson and Vladislav Gavrikov among the defensemen for whom the two teams are testing the ground.

He also adds that with his excellent season, Chychrun (27 points in 35 games) is unsurprisingly generating a lot of interest across the NHL and the Boston Bruins would also like to be in the race.

The Kings lead the Oilers by three points with 63 to 60 in Pacific Division standings heading into Tuesday’s games.

LeBrun also spoke regarding the Patrick Kane file. He got the information from Chicago Blackhawks forward Pat Brisson’s agent that there will be a decision shortly in his case on whether he wants to change teams. He has a no-trade clause in his contract.

If he agrees to be traded, Kane would give his response at least a week before the trade deadline so that teams interested in his services can weigh their options.
