NHL: The Wild put the grapple on John Klingberg

Transaction table

After the 3 p.m. deadline on Friday, Pierre LeBrun announced that defenseman John Klingberg had been traded by the Anaheim Ducks to the Minnesota Wild.

In return, the Ducks receive a 2025 4th round pick, Andrej Sustr as well as the rights to forward Nikita Nesterenko, according to Joe Smith of The Athletic.

The 30-year-old fullback did not play the Ducks’ final game this week for “trade-related” reasons. In 50 games this season, he has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points.

Klingberg agreed to a one-year deal last July and is on $7 million this season. He will then be an unrestricted free agent.

Drafted in the 5th round of the 2010 Draft by the Dallas Stars, he played his first eight NHL seasons in Dallas, before joining the Ducks. He has 79 goals and 398 points in 602 games on the Bettman circuit.

Sustr hasn’t played in the NHL this season, but he has two goals and 10 assists in 39 games with the Iowa Wild in the AHL.
