The Kraken scored no less than seven goals in the first half once morest the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday in a most offensive game won 9-8 in overtime by Seattle.
Taking advantage of a four-on-three power play in overtime, Andre Burakovsky scored his second goal of the night to win for his team.
The second-year team in the NHL, which has been booming for two weeks, thus added a sixth consecutive victory.
Dave Hakstol’s men lowered a team mark that was only six days old.
Last Wednesday, the Kraken (14-5-3) had exploded for eight goals for the first time in its history, in a victory at the expense of the San Jose Sharks.
A total of thirteen different markers flashed the red light in what was, unsurprisingly, the most prolific clash of the campaign so far.
Burakovsky, Jared McCann and Matty Beniers scored braces for the Kraken, while Jordan Eberle (0-4), Justin Schultz (0-3) and Alex Wennberg (1-2) also stood out.
Seattle left for the locker room with a 3-2 lead for the first intermission, then 8-6 following two engagements.
Only once in the past 35 years have two teams scored 14 goals following 40 minutes.
Quick replaced following 25 minutes of play
When Quick conceded twice on the visitors’ first two shots in the middle period, the veteran keeper was replaced by Cal Petersen.
The latter did little better in relief, while three of the first nine throws at his expense deceived his vigilance.
Despite their setbacks in defense, the Kings (12-9-4) maintained the offensive pace imposed by the Kraken, so that a comeback was always possible.
That scenario became realistic when Sean Durzi netted LA’s seventh goal at 11:36 of the final period, and another defender, Mikey Anderson, moved the ropes 2:03 later.
It was Kraken starter Martin Jones who conceded each of the eight goals for the Kings, who shot 35 times.
Petersen stopped all six Kraken shots in the final 20 minutes, saving his best save for Ryan Donato just before Anderson’s equalizer.
The Kings, however, got caught with an extra skater early in overtime, opening the door for Burakovsky to beat Petersen with a pinpoint wrist shot into the top corner.
In his last four outings, Beniers, an early candidate for the Calder Trophy, has amassed 11 points (4-7).
Despite his club’s setback, Kevin Fiala had a performance of four assists. That’s one more than fullback Drew Doughty, while Gabriel Vilardi added his 12th and 13th goals on the schedule.
