Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman congratulated himself on being able to sign Andrew Copp when the free agent market opens on Wednesday.
In interview at MLive.comYzerman has sung the praises of the 28-year-old American striker who he offered a generous 5-year contract worth US$28.125 million.
“He is a very good athlete. It is very versatile. He can play center and wing. He can play in numerical superiority and in numerical inferiority. He’s also good in the face-off circle, Yzerman said.
“I had no problem offering him a 5-year contract, because he is a good athlete. We know he takes care of his body and is very professional. »
Copp particularly shined following being acquired by the New York Rangers at the trade deadline last season, scoring 8 goals and 10 assists in 16 games. He then added 6 goals and 8 assists in 14 playoff games.
At the Red Wings, Copp will reunite with his former teammate at the University of Michigan Dylan Larkin.
