NHL: Shea Weber contract moves from Golden Knights to Coyotes

Defenseman Shea Weber’s contract was traded once more on Wednesday as the Arizona Coyotes agreed to add him to their payroll.

According to Kevin Weekes, of NHL Networkthe Vegas Golden Knights traded Weber’s contract and a 5th round pick in the 2023 draft to the Coyotes.

In return for Weber, whose retirement was never formalized, Arizona agreed to sell defender Dysin Mayo to the Knights.

The 26-year-old Mayo has appeared in 15 Coyotes games this season and hasn’t earned a point. In 2021-2022, he had played 67 games during his rookie season, amassing 12 points.

Mayo is a fifth-round pick of the Coyotes in 2014, 133rd overall.

Unsurprisingly, the Knights made this personnel move in order to increase their financial flexibility in preparation for the NHL trade deadline.

The contract of the former captain of the Canadiens had changed address for the first time last June, when he went to Vegas in return for striker Evgenii Dadonov.

Weber played 1,038 NHL games with the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens. His last outing dates back to Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2021, when the Canadiens surrendered once morest the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He did not return to action followingward due to an accumulation of injuries.

Weber’s contract is valid until the end of the 2025-26 season and has an impact of just over US$7.8 million on payroll.
