NHL: Shane Wright ceded in the junior ranks; Guenther back with the Coyotes

The Seattle Kraken have traded the striker Shane Wright to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League on Friday.

Wright, who just turned 19, was the captain of the Canadian team that won gold at the last Junior World Championships held in Halifax and Moncton.

He had one assist in seven games with the Kraken in November and December before being traded to the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the AHL.

A four-goal tally in five games with the Firebirds earned him a recall with the Kraken where he scored his first career NHL goal in a 4-2 loss at home to the Montreal Canadiens on July 6. December, before his loan to Junior Team Canada.

On the Kraken website, general manager Ron Francis said Wright has a bright future with the team, and he’s looking forward to seeing the forward compete to lead his junior club to the Memorial Cup.

Long tipped as the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft, Wright was eventually picked fourth overall by the Kraken. He scored 32 goals and had 62 assists in 63 games with the Frontenacs last season.

Heading into Friday’s games, the Frontenacs were ranked fifth in the Ontario Junior League Eastern Conference with a 17-15-2 record.

For his part, the golden goal scorer Dylan Guenther will be back with the Arizona Coyotes.

The 19-year-old forward’s last game with the Coyotes dates back to December 7. Guenther has three goals and eight assists in 21 games this season.

The Edmonton native had a good tournament to help Canada win the gold medal, registering seven goals and three assists in seven games.
