NHL Rumors: Coyotes close to trading defenseman Jakob Chychrun

One of the most coveted players heading into the NHL’s trade deadline may be regarding to move on.

Prior to Saturday’s game once morest the St. Louis Blues, the Arizona Coyotes said defenseman Jakob Chychrun would not be in uniform.

On their Twitter page, the Coyotes announced that the 24-year-old guard will not be playing “for trade-related reasons.”

As a result, the Arizona squad recalled Victor Soderström and Dysin Mayo from their AHL farm club, the Tucson Roadrunners.

Chychrun, who missed the start of the season with an injury, has contributed 28 points (7-21) in 36 games since returning to the lineup.

The American from Boca Raton was the 16th player selected in the 2016 draft.

Oilers try to add Karlsson

The Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks have resumed talks regarding defenseman Erik Karlsson according to Chris Johnston of TSN.

The latter said on Saturday that the two teams had started talks for the second time this season for a possible transaction. However, he specifies that there are always financial issues for an exchange to materialize.

The 32-year-old Karlsson is having a great season with the Sharks. He amassed 70 points, including 53 assists, in 53 games.

Before considering a meeting between the defender and Connor McDavid, the Oilers and the Sharks will have to find a common ground for Karlsson’s contract. The latter receives an annual salary of $11.5 million until the end of the 2026-2027 campaign.

The Oilers are second in the Pacific Division with 63 points in 52 games heading into Saturday’s games. The fight is tight in the division, as the Seattle Kraken and the Los Angeles Kings have the same number of points.
