Nashville Predators forward Tanner Jeannot is the newest support worker acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning before the trade deadline.
Jeannot, an energetic player who scored 24 goals in 2021-2022, will join the finalists of the last Stanley Cup. He will be eligible for restricted free agent status next July.
The price to pay for Jeannot’s services, however, was considerable: the Preds obtained defenseman Cal Foote, as well as a 1st round choice in 2025 (protected from the top-10), a 2nd choice in 2024, as well as 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks in 2023.
It’s another blow for Tampa’s pick bank, which doesn’t have a 1st-round pick until the 2026 amateur auction or a 2nd-round pick until 2025.
Regarding the 2023 draft, as of today, the Lightning would have a first right to speak in the 6th round only.
Jeannot has not found the same scoring touch he had last season, in recent months, amassing only five goals so far in 57 games.
The 25-year-old Saskatchewan native came to the Nashville organization as a free agent ahead of the 2018-19 season.
He played two seasons in the AHL, with the Milwaukee Admirals, before getting his chance with the Preds.
Jeannot is particularly fond of robust play, as evidenced by his fourth place in the league in bodychecks (213).
Last year, he took second place; only Florida Panthers defenseman Radko Gudas beat him.
Later that night, the Predators made another trade. They acquired Isaac Ratcliffe from the Philadelphia Flyers. They will cede future considerations for the striker’s services.
Ratcliffe didn’t play in the NHL this season, but he had four points in 26 AHL games. Last season, he had one goal and three assists in 10 games for the Flyers.
