SUMMARY

After dominating Game 2 6-0, the Edmonton Oilers picked up where they left off by scoring the first five goals in Game 3 on Friday en route to an 8-2 win to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings.

Evander Kane had three goals, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman had two goals and an assist each, Cody Ceci had three assists, Leon Draisaitl provided a goal and an assist, and Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard all three got two assists for the Oilers.

Despite the one-sided scoring, the Kings still fired 46 shots on Mike Smith, who stopped 44 after hitting a 30-save shutout in Game 2 following his costly error that allowed Phillip Danault to score the winning goal at the end of the first game.

The Kings gave a sign of life in the second half of the second period when Anze Kopitar touched the target before being an accomplice to Danault’s second goal of the series.

The Oilers, however, came back with three goals in the third. Nugent-Hopkins then scored twice just over a minute apart and Kane completed his hat trick with 20 seconds on the clock. Kane already has five goals in the series after his double in Game 2.

Jonathan Quick gave way to Cal Petersen in the middle of the second after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Petersen couldn’t do better, yielding four times on 20 shots.

Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Sunday in Los Angeles.
