NHL play-offs: the Flames all fired up, the Hurricanes snatched

The Calgary Flames went all out to beat the Oilers 9-6 at Edmonton in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinals on Wednesday, while in the east, the Carolina Hurricanes snatched victory in overtime once morest the Rangers in New York 2 to 1.

The Flames scored three goals in each period, although they were trapped in the second, won by the Oilers 4-3.

Matthew Tkachuk distinguished himself in the ranks of the winning team by scoring a hat-trick.

The Carolina Hurricanes themselves had a much harder time winning in New York once morest the Rangers, who lost 2-1 in overtime.

Rangers opened the scoring in the first period, but the Hurricanes came back to their level in the last, before eventually winning in extra time.
