NHL: Nugent-Hopkins reaches 100 points, Edmonton wins

The Emonton Oilers posted their sixth straight win by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.

In the win, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hit the prestigious 100-point plateau. The veteran Oilers center joins teammates Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl who pulled off the feat earlier this season. The three players become the first line on a team to score 100 points each since Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Ron Francis with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995-96.

Nugent-Hopkins is having his best career season by far. His highest points total before this campaign was 69, achieved in 2018-19.

Jay Woodcroft’s troupe is all fired up these days. The Oilers’ last loss in regulation dates back to March 11. Their recent successes have moved them closer to first place in the Western Conference, currently held by the Vegas Golden Knights. Edmonton now sits just one point behind their divisional rivals.

It was Klim Kostin, who with his two points (a goal and an assist) led the Alberta team to victory. Kostin hadn’t collected any points in his last 10 games.

For his part, McDavid pushed his series of games with at least one point to 13.

While he had a shutout in the last game once morest the Ducks last Saturday, Jack Campbell was once once more solid, stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced.

For the Ducks, Troy Terry was the team’s lone scorer.
