Carolina suffered to take the measure of the New York Rangers in Act I of their Conference semi-final. Nino Niederreiter’s Hurricanes won 2-1 following extra time at Raleigh.
Manhandled for more than 40 minutes of play, the Canes snatched the equalizer 2’23” from the end of regulation time thanks to a success from Sebastian Aho before forcing the decision following 3’12” in “overtime” on a shot from Ian Cole deflected by an opposing defender. Rangers opened the scoring in the 8th minute through Filip Chytil.
Carolina suffered during the first two periods, conceding no less than 23 shots on target while only managing 14, before taking the lead in the third period (10 shots on target at 4). The Hurricanes hit the amounts of Rangers twice, the first on a shot from Nino Niederreiter in the 53rd, before finally finding the fault.
