NHL Game Recap: Colorado Avalanche Dominate Kings, MacKinnon Takes Lead in Scoring Race

Logan O’Connor scored two goals, Nathan MacKinnon had two points to move past Nikita Kucherov atop the NHL scorers and the Colorado Avalanche recorded their third straight victory by beating the Los Angeles Kings 5-1, Friday.

O’Connor put the Avalanche in control with his 12th and 13th goals of the season in the first period and MacKinnon made it 3-0 Colorado with his 31st before the end of the period. MacKinnon was also instrumental in Cale Makar’s 12th goal early in the third.

Author of 28 points in his streak of last 13 consecutive games with at least one point, MacKinnon is at the heart of a hot fight for the first place in scorers with Kucherov, who has 26 points in his last 14 games.

MacKinnon has 84 points in 49 games since the start of the season while Kucherov has 83 points in 48 games.

MacKinnon took first place from Kucherov with a five-point performance on Wednesday, before being overtaken the next day by the Lightning forward, who signed a three-point performance on Thursday.

Josh Manson also scored for the Avalanche and Ross Colton had two assists.

Alexandar Georgiev made 25 saves in front of the Colorado net in addition to obtaining his second assist of the season.

Kevin Fiala scored the only goal for the Kings, who have won just two of their last 15 games (2-8-5).

Cam Talbot gave up his place following allowing three goals on 12 shots in the first period. David Rittich took care of the last two, stopping 17 of the 19 shots he faced.

Buchnevich orchestrates the rise of the Blues

Pavel Buchnevich completed his double in overtime and the St Louis Blues erased a two-goal deficit to win 4-3 once morest the Seattle Kraken and sign a fourth victory in a row.

The Blues trailed 3-1 in the second, but Buchnevich then assisted on the final three goals of the game to orchestrate the comeback.

Buchnevich first got an assist on Robert Thomas’ 17th goal with 4:59 left in the second. He then tied the game just 1:27 into the third before hitting the target 3:31 into overtime with his 16th goal of the season.

Thomas also had an assist on Buchnevich’s tying goal. Blues captain Brayden Schenn had two assists, including a cross-ice pass on the winning goal. He also prepared the net for Oskar Sundqvist, who opened the scoring in the first period.

Brian Dumoulin, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Eeli Tolvanen scored three unanswered goals to give the Kraken a 3-1 lead, which was unable to preserve it despite its 36-18 domination in shots on goal.

Jordan Binnington thus had the upper hand over his opposite side Joey Daccord, finishing the match with 33 saves compared to only 14 for his Kraken rival.

After winning nine games in a row recently, the Kraken have now lost five of their last six meetings (1-4-1).
