NHL: for the 2nd time of his rookie season, Trevor Zegras scores the “Michigan” goal

Anaheim Ducks rookie forward Trevor Zegras continued to impress on Friday, scoring a Michigan-inspired second goal once morest the Arizona Coyotes.

The 21-year-old center came behind the net with speed before depositing the puck on his stick blade and deceiving goaltender Karel Vejmelka for his 17th goal of the season.

Zegras even allowed himself to score despite the presence of his teammate Sonny Milano, who somewhat obstructed his way between the back of the net and the opening left gaping by Vejmelka.

“I saw the play and there was no one behind the net. So I got the puck and the only person in my way was Sonny which was funny,” Zegras said following the first period.

On January 27, the American selected 9th overall in the 2019 draft surprised Samuel Montembeault to score an almost identical goal.

It was also Zegras’ 50th point, in their 63rd game of the season. His goal gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead in the first period.

The Ducks eventually won 5-0, as Anthony Stolarz posted the shutout, his third of the season, with 22 saves.

Anaheim also ended an eleven-game winless streak (0-8-3).

Overall, the Coyotes (21-42-5) remain tied with the Montreal Canadiens at last. The two teams played the same number of games, 68.

After the Zegras net in January, Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov, who has already scored with such a move, asked who would be able to score another such goal.

It was finally the Ducks striker who offered himself this new offensive gem.
