NHL: Connor McDavid, the 5th fastest in history to reach the plateau of 800 points

Connor McDavid got an assist on Leon Draisaitl’s tying goal on Tuesday, earning him his 800th NHL point.

Left off the scoresheet following 40 minutes, McDavid provided three points in the third, helping his club overthrow the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2.

The Edmonton Oilers captain is the 5th fastest player to reach this milestone, behind Wayne Gretzky (352), Mario Lemieux (410), Mike Bossy (525) and Peter Stastny (531).

McDavid achieved it in his 545th meeting on the Bettman circuit. It was then his 103rd point of the current campaign. He keeps a 20-point priority over his teammate Draisaitl, his closest pursuer in the scoring column.

A few minutes later, the first overall pick of the 2015 draft hit the target for the 43rd time this season, recording an 801st point without much expectation.

The Flyers benefited from a chance to send the duel to overtime on a power play with 2:48 remaining, but McDavid wasted no time in ending comeback hopes with his 44th goal, in an abandoned net.

Stuart Skinner got the win, following stopping 22 shots from the visitors. In the other net, Carter Hart allowed three goals on 26 shots.
