Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki has been invited to participate in the NHL All-Star Game with the Eastern team.
He is one of the 32 players announced Thursday by the NHL for the meeting which will take place on February 3 in Toronto.
In his fifth season in the NHL, Suzuki has scored 12 goals and had 22 assists in 37 games so far.
This selection is the third of the 24-year-old’s career, following his participation in the 2022 and 2023 editions.
Auston Matthews, league leader with 30 goals this season, of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who will be at home, will be making his fifth appearance. As for Sidney Crosby, he is the oldest in the East with a sixth appearance.
Among the players whose selection was announced Thursday in the East, Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabers is the only defenseman.
The 18-year-old phenomenon Connor Bedard, star of the Chicago Blackhawks, will participate in the all-star meeting in his rookie season.
Not surprisingly, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was invited to perform in the Queen City, as was the circuit’s top scorer among defensemen, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.
A tribute will be paid to the 1967 edition of the Maple Leafs, who last won the Stanley Cup. The Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF) will also present a three-on-three match.
The 12 other players who will be at the All-Star meeting will be chosen by a fan vote between now and January 11.
The skills competition will be back once once more during this All-Star weekend. Six events will be held.
