The Tampa Bay Lightning will closely monitor the condition of captain Steven Stamkos following the 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
The striker left Saturday’s game in the first half. Stamkos fell heavily on the ice following contact with Joey Anderson. He tripped following the Hawks player’s skate knocked him down and he got up in pain.
He headed to the locker room and the organization confirmed moments later that he would not return to action without giving further details regarding his injury.
On the scoreboard, Brayden Point made the difference with two goals, including the one that broke the tie late in the game.
After opening the scoring for Tampa, Point hit the target for a 43e times this season with just a minute left in the third period. With a score of 2 to 1, Brandon Hagel closed the books in an empty net.
Only Taylor Raddysh got the better of Brian Elliott who saved 23 pucks. Petr Mrazek was much busier with 34 saves.
In 65 games this season, Stamkos has 27 goals and 66 points. The Lightning are third in the Atlantic Division with 82 points.
