Nguyen Thi Oanh won the 1,500m gold medal in Asian Indoor Athletics | Sport

Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh won the final of the 1,500m content at the 2023 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships held in Kazakhstan last night (February 11).

Nguyen Thi Oanh finished with a record of 4 minutes 15 seconds 55, 4 seconds faster than the Japanese runner-up. The girl born in 1995 fiercely chased following the opponents in the early rounds and then rose to speed at the later stage to get ahead of 7 other opponents.

Thus, Nguyen Thi Oanh became the third Vietnamese athlete to win a gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. Previously, athletes Truong Thanh Hang and Bui Thi Thu Thao were crowned in the 800m and long jump, respectively.

The impressive achievement in the Asian tournament once once more recognizes Nguyen Thi Oanh’s top performance and relentless efforts on the track. This will be a stepping stone to help the “golden girl” head to major tournaments this year following closing 2022 with many successes.

Besides Nguyen Thi Oanh, athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen of the Vietnamese track and field team also won a silver medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in the women’s 400m event.

Prize Athletics Indoor Asia 2023 will take place from February 10 to 12 at the Kazakhstan Sports Palace with more than 500 athletes from 31 countries and regions. The tournament has been held since 2004 with a biennial cycle.

The Vietnamese track and field team sent four best athletes to compete, including Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Trung Cuong, Luong Duc Phuoc, and Nguyen Thi Huyen. This is an international tournament to help athletes prepare for the 32nd SEA Games./.
