True to form, RDS presents an NFL tripleheader this Sunday, for the 7th week of activities.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Mac Jones orchestrated a winning offensive sequence leading to Mike Gesicki’s touchdown with 12 seconds left, and the New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills 29-25 on Sunday.
Bill Belichick’s squad, which blew a 22-10 lead in the fourth quarter before recovering nicely, had lost its three previous games.
The venerable 71-year-old coach was enjoying his 300th NFL victory; he is only the third instructor to achieve this, following Hall of Famers Don Shula (328 successes) and George Halas (318).
Jones was sublime, completing 25 of 30 passes for 272 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, and only one sack for a loss of four yards.
The Pats (2-5) had not yet won in three games played on their lawn at Gillette Stadium.
The Bills suffered a third defeat in seven games, a week following their narrow home victory once morest the New York Giants.
Josh Allen thought he had done enough late in the game when his quarterback sneak gave the Bills their first lead of the followingnoon (23-22) with 1:53 remaining.
But his opposite Jones quickly responded, starting with a pass to his running back Rhamondre Stevenson for a 34-yard gain on the first play of the decisive sequence.
Instead of settling for a precision kick that would have potentially tied the score, the Pats put the Bills’ tertiary to work, who obstructed Demario Douglas at the goal gate.
Two plays later, Jones joined Gesicki. The latter’s second catch of the match will therefore have allowed New England to revive hope during a season punctuated until then by several failures.
Allen’s record once morest the Patriots since his arrival in the Goodell circuit now stands at 5 wins and the same number of losses.
Foreman stands up in Fields’ absence
D’Onta Foreman scored three touchdowns and the Chicago Bears overcame the absence of Justin Fields to win 30-12 once morest the Las Vegas Raiders.
In his third game with the Bears (2-5), the running back was the driving force behind Chicago’s attack. He put the Bears ahead with a two-yard run in the first quarter and doubled the Bears’ lead with a three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Foreman then scored a passing touchdown for his second career three-touchdown game.
In the absence of Fields, who is expected to miss two to three weeks of activities, Tyson Bagent was the Bears’ starting quarterback. Undrafted, Bagent signed the victory in his first career start. He completed 21 of his 29 passes for gains of 162 yards.
The Raiders (3-4) were also without their starting quarterback, while Jimmy Garropolo was unable to play due to a back injury. In his absence, veteran Brian Hoyer had a very difficult game. He completed 17 of his 32 passes for a meager 129 yards. He was the victim of two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
By the fourth quarter, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels had seen enough and decided to send Aidan O’Connell into the fray. The rookie quarterback did better, completing 10 of 13 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers. He also threw an interception.
The Falcons take the lead in their division
Younghoe Koo made a 51-yard field goal on the last play of the game and the Atlanta Falcons scored an important 16-13 victory once morest the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This gain allows the Falcons (4-3) to move ahead of the Bucs (3-3) at the top of the South division of the National.
Tampa thought it had forced overtime when Chase McLaughlin tied the game 13-13 with 45 seconds left with a 36-yard field goal. The Falcons’ attack, however, had not said its last word. Desmond Ridder connected with Kyle Pitts for 39 yards to give Koo a chance to give his team the victory. The kicker did not miss such an opportunity.
Ridder was efficient passing Sunday, completing 19 of 25 passes for 250 yards. Despite a touchdown on the ground, Ridder was however the victim of three fumbles in this game, all recovered by the Bucs, who were not able to make the Falcons quarterback pay.
Bjan Robinson was used in the backfield just once. The running back was sick and ran just once for a measly three yards gain.
The Bucs lost for the second consecutive week. Baker Mayfield amassed 275 yards through the air. He threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans, but was also intercepted once by the Falcons defense.
Waller explodes in Giants win
Darren Waller finally scored his first touchdown with the New York Giants and Brian Daboll’s squad defeated the Washington Commanders 14 to 7.
The tight end had his best game in a New York uniform, catching seven balls for 98 yards. Waller has had at least 86 yards in two of his last three games following seeing little use early in the season. Tyrod Taylor completed 18 of 29 passes for 279 yards in the victory.
Saquon Barkley was also solid in the Giants camp (2-5). He finished the game with 118 yards and a touchdown. The only downside for Barkley: he fumbled the ball late in the fourth quarter to give the ball back to the Commanders (3-4). Washington, however, was unable to convert a fourth-and-5 situation at the Giants’ 7 line, which ended the Commanders’ hopes late in the game.
The Giants defense manhandled Sam Howell behind the line of scrimmage by managing six quarterback sacks for losses of 52 yards. Howell also had an interception in the loss.
Brian Robinson Jr scored the Commanders’ only touchdown, his fourth of the season. He gained only 23 yards on eight carries during this duel.
Les Browns in-extremis
Kareem Hunt scored a touchdown in the final moments of the game to allow the Cleveland Browns to escape with a 39-38 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Hunt went the distance from a yard out to erase a 38-33 deficit.
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was injured in the first quarter and was replaced by PJ Walker. Ironically, despite the 39 points scored, none of them were the result of a pass.
Watson completed one of his five pass attempts for five yards and was intercepted once. As for Walker, he amassed 178 yards with 15 successful passes in 32 attempts. He was the victim of an interception.
Hunt finished the game with two majors and gains of 31 yards on ten carries.
Jerome Ford was very spectacular with a 69-yard run that ended in the end zone for the Browns.
Tony Fields II, for his part, recovered a fumbled ball for a defensive touchdown.
The rest of the points came from the foot of precision kicker Dustin Hopkins who was perfect on four field goal attempts, including his longest of 58 yards.
Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew completed two passes for majors, including a 75-yard pass to Michael Pittman Jr. He also connected with Josh Downs on 59 yards for another touchdown.
He also crossed the goal line twice for majors at distances of 17 and four yards.
Minshew, who finished his day with 15 completions in 23 attempts for 305 yards, was also intercepted once.
Jonathan Taylor also scored a five-yard touchdown.
