NFL: Regular Season Week 2

Friday, September 15th, 2:15 a.m

Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) – Minnesota Vikings (0-2) 34:28 BOXSCORE

Last year’s finalist Philadelphia got off to a flawless start. After an initial 3:7 deficit, the Eagles turned the game around, primarily through a strong running game; running back D’Andre Swift alone managed 175 yards and scored a touchdown. Not everything went well for the home team, especially in the first half . Boos for their own team might not be ignored at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles fans were particularly compensated by WR DeVonta Smith, who had 131 yards on just four receptions. Highlight: A 63-yard catch following a pass from Jalen Hurts for a touchdown early in the third quarter. Hurts himself ran into the Vikings end zone twice with manageable stats for a QB of his stature (18/23, 193 Yds, TD, INT). Minnesota didn’t have to lose the game. Three fumbles in the first half alone, four total, is a devastating record. The Vikings are the first team in 20 years to lose six balls in this way in the first two games. One ball loss was at the expense of WR Justin Jefferson, who otherwise showed a historic performance. The 24-year-old set an NFL record with 159 yards in Philadelphia: He only needed 52 games for 5,000 career yards! In doing so, he sets the mark of Hall-of-Famer Lance Alworth.

Atlanta Falcons (2-0) – Green Bay Packers (1-1) 25:24 BOXSCORE

After three touchdown passes from quarterback Jordan Love (14/25, 151 yards), the Packers led 24:12 before the final quarter, but then gave up the game. The Falcons countered with a TD and two field goals to take the lead, but Green Bay’s drive in the final minute didn’t gain a single yard of space. Again outstanding for the Falcons: rookie running back Bijan Robinson. He had 124 yards rushing on 19 carries and caught four passes for an additional 48 yards. Atlanta totaled 211 yards in the running game, and quarterback Desmond Ridder (1 touchdown, 1 interception) had 237 passing yards.

Buffalo Bills (1-1) – Las Vegas Raiders (1-1) 38:10 BOXSCORE

After the overtime defeat at the start once morest the Jets, the Bills flexed their muscles this time. Quarterback Josh Allen shone with 31/37 passes and three touchdowns, and the running game contributed 183 more yards. The Bills led 21:10 at halftime and increased the score. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw two interceptions for the Raiders, and the running game was also almost ineffective with 55 yards. Running back Zamir White also lost a fumble.

Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) – Baltimore Ravens (2-0) 24:27 BOXSCORE

Not only did the Bengals lose the second game of the season like last season, but quarterback Joe Burrow’s already injured calf may have worsened once more. After a short touchdown pass late in the game, he hobbled off the field and said he would have to wait for the next few days. After all, he went from 86 passing yards once morest the Browns to 222 (27/41, interception). The Ravens had to survive the last three and a half minutes to avoid giving Cincy the ball once more. The strong Lamar Jackson (24/33, 237 yards, 2 touchdowns, 54 rushing yards) brought home the victory. Baltimore totaled 178 rushing yards. “Lamar played winning football. He had his rhythm early, made a few passes and had a few great plays down the field,” praised head coach John Harbaugh. The downside: The Ravens had wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with an ankle injury down in the third quarter. He previously had three catches and 29 yards.

Detroit Lions (1-1) – Seattle Seahawks (1-1) 31:37 OT BOXSCORE

After the surprise once morest defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered a setback with his Detroit Lions. In the home premiere, the Lions lost to the Seattle Seahawks 31:37 following overtime. This time the German-American remained without a touchdown; the previous week, St. Brown scored the first of the new NFL season. The wide receiver caught six passes for 102 yards once morest Seattle.St. Brown required treatment on his right foot and left calf in the third quarter but was able to continue. The previous week, the Detroit Lions had won 21:20 at the Chiefs with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the opening game of the season. Detroit equalized with a field goal from 38 yards in the final seconds, but lost the coin toss and so didn’t get there first the ball. The Seahawks completed a 75-yard drive to win, Tyler Lockett caught his second touchdown of the game in the win.

Houston Texans (0-2) – Indianapolis Colts (1-1) 20:31 BOXSCORE

Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson initiated the Colts’ first win following eight defeats with two early touchdowns, but injured his head on his second TD run and had to go down with a concussion. Backup Gardner Minshew (19/23, TD) took over for Richardson (6/10, 56 yards, 35 rushing yards). Against the overwhelmed Texans, he extended the lead to 28:10 by the break. Although Houston came close once more in the second half, rookie CJ Stroud’s numbers also read very well thanks to the comeback (30/47, 384 yards, 2 touchdowns). However, Stroud also lost an early fumble and was sacked a total of six times.

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) – Kansas City Chiefs (1-1) 9:17 BOXSCORE

Definitely not an explosion offensively, but it was the first win for Pat Mahomes and Co. The MVP had 305 yards (29/41), two touchdowns and one interception and won the duel with Trevor Lawrence (22/41, 216 yards). But three early turnovers in the game and 94 penalty yards should be a concern. “Playing badly and winning is much better than playing badly and losing,” countered Mahomes. “But there is still a lot to improve.”Tight end Travis Kelce was part of the game this time and had four catches (26 yards) and a touchdown. Pass rusher Chris Jones, who ended his holdout on a new one-year contract, also played well (1.5 sacks, 5 pressures once morest Lawrence).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0) – Chicago Bears (0-2) 27:17 BOXSCORE

Another good game from the new Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, who succeeded Tom Brady. 317 passing yards, one touchdown and no turnovers were recorded, star receiver Mike Evans caught six passes for 171 yards. After a touchdown to start the game, Justin Fields had great difficulties on the other side. The QB was sacked six times and threw two interceptions, including a pick-six when the score was 20-17 for Tampa. Things are slowly getting tighter for Fields; if the Bears draft high once more, they might target his successor. “Disappointing loss,” said head coach Matt Eberflus. “We had our chance.”

Tennessee Titans (1-1) – Los Angeles Chargers (0-2) 27:24 OT BOXSCORE

Kicker Nick Folk was the hero of the day for the Titans. In the pouring rain, he converted a 41-yard field goal attempt in overtime to win – it was the 13th winning kick in his sixteen-year career. This ended a series of eight games without a win. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was significantly improved compared to Week 1 (20/24, 246 yards, touchdown, rushing touchdown) and Derrick Henry scored 80 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Justin Herbert (27/41) threw two touchdowns on the other side, but was sacked three times. The running game (21 carries for 61 yards) was also off. Although the Chargers won the coin toss at the start of overtime, Herbert threw incomplete three times and the ball went to Tennessee.

Arizona Cardinals (0-2) – New York Giants (1-1) 28:31 BOXSCORE

Incredible comeback of the G-Men! After the 0:40 defeat in Week 1 once morest the Cowboys, things seemed to continue the same way for New York – at halftime the Cardinals were 20:0. Five possessions in the first half: punt, punt, punt, interception by quarterback Daniel Jones and then the clock ran out. But then everything changed: four touchdowns in a row and finally Graham Gano’s 34-yard field goal in the final minute to win.

Los Angeles Rams (1-1) – San Francisco 49ers (2-0) 23:30 BOXSCORE

The Rams, who were considered to be significantly weaker, held up surprisingly well once morest the favorites in the first half; it should have been enough for head coach Sean McVay’s team to take the lead at halftime. But then the Niners put everything on one card with the clock running out before the break and didn’t shoot the field goal for certain points – but ran a quarterback sneak with Brock Purty to make it 17:17. Not many would have had that courage. In the second half, the game tipped in San Fran’s direction: Matt Stafford threw two interceptions for the Rams, but Purdy (17/25, 206 yards, 2 touchdowns) remained confident. Christian McCaffrey provided balance with 116 rushing yards and a score.

Dallas Cowboys (1-0) – New York Jets (1-0) -:- BOXSCORE

Next win for America’s Team! Although it looked like it was going to be a little tighter at times when receiver Garrett Wilson scored a 68-yard touchdown to make it 7:10 in the second quarter, the Jets offense didn’t come up with much following that and was completely without anything in the second half Points. Quarterback Zach Wilson, replacement for the injured Aaron Rodgers, had a total of 170 passing yards, three sacks and three interceptions…As for Rodgers: He was supposed to be out for the rest of the season following tearing his Achilles tendon – but he wants one himself Don’t rule out a comeback in the playoffs. A new type of Achilles tendon operation should make this possible; in the best case scenario, he should be able to play once more in four months. However, he will be 40 years old by then. And the Jets have to make it to the postseason first…

Denver Broncos (0-2) – Washington Commanders (2-0) 33:35 BOXSCORE

The Broncos led 21-3 following touchdowns in the first three drives in front of their own crowd, and they also had the ball in the opponent’s half midway through the second quarter. But then quarterback Russell Wilson fumbled the ball away – and the game ended. Suddenly the Commanders around QB Sam Howell (299 yards, 2 TDs) were able to score, and a few minutes following the break they made it 21:21. The Broncos, for their part, attempted a comeback at 24:35, scored a field goal and won took the ball back once more 48 seconds before the end. With the clock running out, Wilson hit a 50-yard Hail Mary – Flipper, Touchdown, Wahnsinn! But a two-point conversion would have been needed to equalize – and that failed.
