More than 50,000 tickets were sold in 24 hours for a scenario where the AFC championship game would take place in Atlanta, the NFL announced Friday.
Season ticket holders Bills and Chiefs had priority access to tickets, should the Jan. 29 game be played at the Falcons’ home.
The possibility stems from the cancellation of the Buffalo – Cincinnati game where Damar Hamlin collapsed on the pitch on January 2.
The Bills might have had home-court advantage in three playoff games.
Buffalo, however, played one less game, finishing half a game behind the Chiefs for first place in the AFC.
The NFL therefore decided that if the two teams reached the last stage before the Super Bowl, it would be in a neutral city.
We chose the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which has 75,000 seats.
Tickets were sold in such a way that Bills fans would be on one side of the stadium and Chiefs fans on the other.
Kansas City will host Jacksonville on Saturday and then Sunday, the Bills will host the Bengals.
If a Buffalo-Kansas City game is to be shown in Atlanta, the rest of the tickets would go on sale to the general public on Monday.
