LASK presents the sixth new signing of the summer transfer window. Tomas Tavares, a 23-year-old full-back from Portugal, is joining the athletes on loan for one year. The 1.82-meter-tall right-footer most recently played for Spartak Moscow for one and a half years.
Tavares enjoyed his training at the top Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon, for whom he made his professional debut in the UEFA Champions League against RB Leipzig in September 2019. In total, he played five times for the record champions from Portugal in the premier class and twice in the Europa League.
In the following years, the Lisbon native was loaned to Deportivo Alaves, SC Farense and FC Basel. In January 2023, he moved to Russian top-flight fifth-placed Spartak Moscow, for whom he has made 22 appearances in the past year and a half.
The 23-year-old was also an integral part of the Portuguese youth national teams. He made a total of nine appearances for his country’s U21 team. Tavares has now signed a loan contract with LASK until June 30, 2025.
“We wanted to strengthen our full-back position and are very happy that we managed to do that by signing Tomas Tavares,” said LASK sporting director Radovan Vujanovic: “He brings exactly what we were looking for and is a highly trained player who has already proven his skills in the European Cup. We are convinced that Tomas will further increase the quality of the team.”
