Wind peaks of 109 km/h

As expected, a line of thunderstorms from Bavaria arrived in Upper Austria between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and moved across the state with strong gusts of wind, heavy rain and local hail. For the time being, the storms were not quite as violent as in the night: gusts of wind of 109 km/h were measured at the airport in Hörsching, 76 km/h in Mondsee, 78 in Vöcklabruck. For comparison: the night before, the storm reached 123 km/h in Waizenkirchen (Grieskirchen district) hurricane force. Local hailstorms also fell, for example in Pasching and Traun (Linz-Land district).

Fire brigades called once more

The fire brigades were on standby – and their help was needed once more. The comrades were alerted to a good 40 storm operations – storm damage and flooding – within two hours on Wednesday evening. The southern half of the federal state was particularly affected on Wednesday evening, while the Mühlviertel was largely spared. As in the night before, traffic routes had to be cleared and flooded cellars had to be pumped out.

How the weather is going

Even at night Thursday Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are still to be expected, forecast meteorologists. The front cools things down: the temperatures drop to 19 to 15 degrees. It will remain cloudy on Thursday morning as well, and it will rain once more and once more in the south. Only in the followingnoon does the disturbance move further south and make way for the sun. The highs on Thursday reach 22 to 25 degrees.

Bathing weather at the weekend

Midsummer and stable weather is in store for us at the weekend: When the sun is shining, the temperatures rise on the Freitag following a fresh 10 to 16 degrees in the morning to 27 to 31 degrees in the followingnoon. Over the course of the day, cumulus clouds will form in the mountains and hills, but the chance of showers will be low.

Bathing weather holds Saturday ready: On With 32 to 36 degrees it will be very hot once more, the sun will shine almost unclouded. From the current perspective, the risk of thunderstorms is low. It should be windy, but still hot (30 to 33 degrees) and sunny Sunday become.
