The former Red Bull Salzburg player suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury in his right ankle once morest Dortmund and will be absent from RB Leipzig for the next few weeks.
The German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has to do without two top performers for the time being. The club announced on Saturday that Christopher Nkunku suffered a “small tear in his left thigh” in the 2-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund the day before and will be absent for the time being. Xaver Schlager got it even worse. The Austrian international suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury in his right ankle and will be operated on on Monday.
After Timo Werner, Lukas Klostermann and Konrad Laimer, Schlager is the fourth Leipzig professional to suffer a syndesmosis injury this season. While the trio was a rift, the club gave no further details on Schlager’s injury and also did not commit to downtime.
Nkunku was in the starting XI in Dortmund for the first time in 111 days and had to be substituted shortly before the end with muscular problems. Germany’s footballer of the year only survived a serious knee injury in mid-February. One of the best and most consistent players in recent months is now missing in Schlager.
