The Sama Lukonde government’s budgetary objectives remain the same despite the reshuffle. The 2021-2023 program, which plans to reach 36 billion USD by the end of 2023, ends in December.
During the press briefing held on Monday, April 3, 2023, the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya affirmed that “if the country maintains its current strategy consisting of plugging all the holes which served as revenue leaks, for 10 years, forecasts may be exceeded”.
“Let’s look at the room for improvement that we had, in 2021 we were at 100 billion FC. Today we are at 16 billion USD. We will be able in 10 years to reach 165 billion FC in budget if we maintain the current stability, according to a tribune of the former Prime Minister Muzito. That is to say, as we evolve with the strategy put in place by the President of the Republic by plugging all the holes that served as a leak or loss of earnings. We managed to triple the country’s budget under difficult conditions in the global context,” said the government spokesperson.
According to him, the country is on the right track, with growth of nearly 200%, “We have an annual growth rate of 8.4% which is one of the highest rates in Africa. Which means we’re on the right track. If the trend is maintained we might exceed forecasts,” he added.
The government has succeeded in mobilizing, as of March 17, 2023, revenues of the order of 3,980 billion 222.02 million CDF (1 billion 969 million USD at the average annual budget rate of 2021 FC per US dollar).
