Opposition leader María Corina Machado confirmed on Thursday, August 29, the release of Jesús Pilieri, son of leader Biagio Pilieri, who was arrested along with his father on August 28.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) Justice, Encounter and Forgiveness denounced on Thursday, August 29 that women detained at the INOF, including those detained in the electoral context, are subjected to “abuse, cruel and degrading treatment.”

“They remain in conditions that violate their dignity and fundamental rights following the recent change of authorities in that facility,” the NGO added on its X account (formerly Twitter).

According to Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón, the relatives of the detainees said that their belongings and hygiene supplies were taken from them. In addition, they are not allowed to bring in food or any other supplies from their relatives.

3. María Corina Machado warned about a possible raid on Edmundo González’s house

Opposition leader María Corina Machado asked citizens to be alert in case of a possible raid on the home of Edmundo González Urrutia.

“Please stay tuned, because I think the next step could be a raid on his house, the house of the president-elect, in the next few hours,” he said in a statement on Thursday, August 29.

On the other hand, Machado assured that González Urrutia will not go to the Public Prosecutor’s Office after the third summons he received, because it is “a totalitarian system where there is absolute control.”

4. The EU does not recognise Maduro’s victory, but neither does it recognise the opposition’s

The foreign ministers of the countries of the European Union agreed on Thursday, August 29, not to recognize the electoral victory claimed by Nicolás Maduro, but they did not reach an agreement to recognize the victory of the opposition.

At the informal EU Foreign Affairs Council held today in Brussels, opposition member Edmundo González spoke remotely, making “a presentation of the situation” and thanking the 27 for their invitation.

Chilean security forces arrested 34 suspects in the Viña del Mar region in an operation carried out by the Investigative Police (PDI) to dismantle a faction of the Tren de Aragua, a transnational gang originating in the Venezuelan state of Aragua, among which is the alleged leader of the organization in this area.
