On Tuesday, August 27, the PUD reported judicial harassment against Edmundo González by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, due to repeated summons in the context of various investigations against him.

“The repeated summons from the Public Prosecutor’s Office seeks to justify an execution order against our winning candidate, to accentuate his persecution,” the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) stated on its X account.

In this regard, the opposition coalition expressed its support for González and confirmed that “he overwhelmingly won the last presidential election on July 28.”

“(Edmundo) is being persecuted because the government considers it a crime that he obtained no less than eight million votes by the will of the Venezuelan people,” added the MUD.

On Tuesday, August 27, HRW described the proposal to repeat the presidential elections in Venezuela as a “mockery.”

Juanita Goebertus Estrada, director of HRW’s Americas Division, said in a letter to Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Gustavo Petro (Colombia) and Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Mexico) that the human rights organization is concerned about three specific proposals they have made to resolve the Venezuelan crisis.

Goebertus added that a “credible” negotiation between all parties involved is the best way to protect human rights in Venezuela, which is why the organization disagrees with the proposals of Lula, Petro and López Obrador to repeat the elections, trust the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and grant a general amnesty.

The PP spokesman defended the requests of his parliamentary group for the president of the government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, to appear before the chamber and explain Spain’s position, which has not recognised the victory claimed by Nicolás Maduro and has demanded the publication of the electoral records.
