Crime reporter Román Camacho explained that the information being handled through police sources, and unofficially, is that the events occurred when the man was traveling in his private vehicle to the fire department headquarters to receive duty.

According to the report, at the corner of Altamira Street in El Cementerio, an argument broke out between Piñate and a motorcyclist. Although the colonel continued driving, the motorcycle driver followed him and fired two shots at him.

Authorities have begun investigations to find the person responsible.

2. HRW urged to use the UN week to address global problemss

Human Rights Watch (HRW) warned ahead of the 2024 United Nations High-Level Week that world leaders need to seize the opportunity to take action in a world “overwhelmed by human rights crises.”

“The world is overwhelmed by human rights crises, but leaders often fail to take advantage of the tools they have to pressure governments to end human rights violations,” HRW UN director Louis Charbonneau said in a statement.

The war in Gaza – and its escalation to Lebanon with attacks between the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah and Israel – and the conflicts in Sudan, Ukraine, Haiti, Myanmar, Venezuela and Afghanistan are the main fronts that will be addressed in the debates, bilateral meetings, forums and parallel events next week at the UN headquarters in New York.

3. Operators in Venezuela agreed to work to improve Internet access

The Ministry of Science and Technology announced on Saturday, September 21, that a dozen operators in Venezuela agreed to work together on a project that seeks to “improve the quality of Internet traffic in the country without having to use the global network.”

In a press release, the government explained that the agreement was signed within the framework of the II International Telecommunications Fair of Venezuela (Fitelven), which was held in Caracas from September 19 to 21. The event was attended by the National Telephone Company of Venezuela (Cantv) and private companies such as Inter, NetUno, Movistar and Digitel.

“IXP (Internet Protocol Exchange) technology will enable point-to-point connectivity between national operators, eliminating dependence on international connections and ensuring that Internet traffic remains within the country,” the statement said.

4. José Manuel Albares: “The will of Venezuelans expressed at the polls must be respected”

Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said on September 21 that the defense of democracy has been “the only guide for all decisions” that the country has taken since the July 28 presidential elections in Venezuela.

5. Monsignor Jesus Gonzalez de Zarate took office as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Valencia

This Saturday, September 21, Monsignor Jesús González de Zárate Salas took office as IV Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Valencia, in a solemn Eucharist in the Cathedral of Valencia presided over by the apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Alberto Ortega Marín.
