News – Lelystad is building 750 new homes in the Central Campus area – Omroep Flevoland

In the coming years, 750 new owner-occupied and rental homes will be built in the Central Campus area. Councilor Piet van Dijk and developer Verwelius signed an agreement for this purpose on Thursday. Central campus area is the area between Gordiaandreef and Larserdreef.

The housing project is part of the ‘Heart of the City’ program, with which Lelystad wants to create an attractive and lively city center. Councilor Dennis Grimbergen emphasizes that the new homes contribute to the goal of growing Lelystad to 120,000 inhabitants by 2040.

The Central Campus area must become a place of living, education, sports and recreation. Other housing projects have already been completed in recent years, including apartments and bungalows. Porteum secondary school is also on the campus and the former De Rietlanden secondary school, but that is being demolished.

Previous plans mentioned 416 homes. That number has been adjusted to 750. The municipality had set the upper limit for the area at 1,000 homes.

45 parties were interested in the construction project. Ultimately, five developers were given the opportunity to create a sketch design, after which the contract was finally awarded to Verwelius in August.

The construction company Verwelius was already known in Lelystad with the development of De Notentuin in the Warande district. The company hopes to “give a boost to the city” with the project in the Central Campus area.

The construction company will soon organize an information meeting for interested parties and local residents.

A Housing Boom: Lelystad’s Central Campus Set for 750 New Homes!

Well, folks, grab your hard hats and prepare your notepads! It seems Lelystad is diving headfirst into the construction frenzy, with an impressive 750 new owner-occupied and rental homes set to sprout up in the Central Campus region. Yes, you heard me right, seven hundred and fifty! If only we could build that enthusiasm into a condo, eh? Councilor Piet van Dijk recently signed an agreement with developer Verwelius, officially marking the start of this ambitious project. And here I thought ‘Central Campus’ sounded like a university for people who didn’t make it to Hogwarts!

The Heart of the City: Where Dreams and Traffic Jams Collide

Part of the cleverly named ‘Heart of the City’ program, this initiative aims to breathe life into a city center that’s looking a bit like it just woke up from a decade-long nap. According to Councilor Dennis Grimbergen—who has apparently been staying up late working on this project—these new residences will contribute to the grand vision of transforming Lelystad into a bustling hub of 120,000 inhabitants by 2040. I guess that means we’ll need more coffee shops! Or perhaps a few less coffee shops… depending on how many of you are planning to hit the after-work happy hours.

Now, not to be outdone, the Central Campus area is envisioned as a multi-functional wonderland for living, learning, athletics, and a hint of leisure. It’ll be like the Swiss Army knife of urban development—complete with apartments, bungalows, and even a few places for the community to gather. And while Porteum secondary school gets to stay in the neighborhood, the former De Rietlanden secondary school is packing its bags faster than a contestant on a reality show’s finale.

More Homes? You Bet Your Ass! (But Only If They’re Not Cardboard)

Earlier whispers in the planning room touted a simpler number: 416 homes. But who are we kidding? “Why stop at 416 when 750 sounds so wonderfully ambitious?” someone must have exclaimed, probably with a menacing twirl of their mustache. So now, the municipality is eyeing an upper limit of 1,000 homes. It’s like a buffet for housing—what’s a few hundred more when you’re already piling your plate high?

The selection process was nothing if not competitive: 45 eager parties thought they could throw their hat into the ring, but only five lucky developers were whisked away to sketch designs. Ultimately, Verwelius snagged the hot ticket in August, proving yet again that if you want to get ahead, you need more than just a good idea—you need a really good sketch artist!

Verwelius: Bringing the Boom (With a Side of Cheers)

Now, if you haven’t already heard of Verwelius, let me fill you in! This construction company has been busy making waves in Lelystad’s Warande district with their delightful De Notentuin project. They believe this new endeavor will give the city the all-important ‘boost’ it desperately needs. You know, the kind of boost that usually just involves an intriguing new coffee bean but is now part of an actual city’s growth plan!

Before they get started pouring concrete or, let’s be real, pouring coffee at that info meeting they’re organizing, it seems there’s one more key ingredient—a healthy dose of local interest. Keep your ears sharp and your calendars open, because it looks like the Central Campus area is about to become the talk of the town!

So gear up, Lelystad! Your future neighbors—or, at least, the ones who’ll likely borrow your lawnmower—are on their way! And who knows? Maybe someday, we’ll all reflect on these years as the golden age of centralized living, where shared playgrounds and communal coffee runs became both a norm and an art form!
