The Public Health Authority “Prevention” clarified the reality of the concepts circulated regarding antimicrobial resistance and its risks, coinciding with the World Antibiotic Week.
The authority pointed out that one of the risks of microbial resistance to antibiotics is; The ineffectiveness of current antibiotics, the high costs of treatment and examinations, the length of stay in the hospital, and the difficulty of treating some infectious diseases or performing surgeries.
She added that there are some concepts circulating regarding antibiotic resistance, including that the body is the one that resists the antibiotic, and the bacteria that cause the infection are the ones that do the resistance, and that the antibiotic is used for viral infections such as influenza or only for bacterial infections.
