The Governor of the Eastern Province, Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, and the Governor of Al-Ahsa, Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, witnessed today (Monday) the opening of the Salwa border port with Qatar after its expansion and increasing its capacity to 6 times its previous capacity.

During the opening, the trial operation of the passenger section began at the new port, which was expanded by 6 times its previous capacity, while Prince Saud bin Nayef confirmed that the port will contribute to enhancing the movement of vehicles and travelers, and enhancing the volume of trade exchange and economic relations between the two countries.

For its part, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority announced that it has started, with all its partners from government agencies, to provide its services in the passenger section of the new Salwa port, with the launch of the trial operation of the port, which connects the Kingdom with the State of Qatar.

The Governor of the authority, Eng. Suhail bin Muhammad Abanmi, confirmed that the new Salwa port project is an extension of what the authority seeks to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics platform that exploits its strategic location linking the three continents of Africa, Asia and Europe, by developing the infrastructure of land ports in the Kingdom.

He added that the authority has worked on holding a number of strategic partnerships with entities in the public and private sectors, relying on best practices in the design, development and operation of the port infrastructure, thus contributing to strengthening the Kingdom’s economy and facilitating all land transit operations between the Kingdom and neighboring countries.

It is noteworthy that this opening will contribute to raising the capacity of arriving through the port to 12,000 vehicles, as well as accommodating more than 12,000 departure vehicles, after it had accommodated only 3,000 vehicles before the completion of the expansion works.
