News 24 | The Minister of Transport agrees to amend the policy of fees for using public transportation

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Engineer Saleh Al-Jasser, agreed to amend the fee policy for using public transportation in the Kingdom.

The approval included several amendments to the transportation fee policy, including that ticket and point-of-sale systems must be available and easy to access and use, provided that: Purchase tickets through the website, electronic applications, ticket vending machine or ticket office at the station, Or pay in cash and by electronic payment methods.

The amendments included deleting the “student discount” and setting a 50% discount for children from two years of age to less than 12 years old.

She indicated that the owner of the public transport project or the operator would prepare a comprehensive proposal for the fees for using public transportation, including the data needed to be provided to the authority to review and analyze the proposed fees.

The amendments included the addition of a paragraph that the authority seeks to achieve the optimal balance between passengers and authorized operators in the taxi activity; A methodology has been developed for the approval of fees for using taxi services. This methodology consists of two main stages: review – approval, and includes the following steps:
1- The Public Transport Authority shall prepare a proposal for the fees for taxi services, according to the data and review and analyze the fees.
2- The authorized person (the Minister of Transport and Logistics) approves the fees proposed by the Authority.
