Residents of the Al-Ajaweed neighborhood, south of Jeddah, suffer from shortcomings in the main services that the residents of the neighborhood need, most notably the lack of a rainwater drainage network that completely covers the neighborhood.
Residents of the neighborhood complained toNews 24Of their suffering, which is repeated with every rainy season in Jeddah.
severe losses
On a field trip toNews 24Citizen Abu Ahmed (a resident of the Al-Ajaweed neighborhood) said that due to the absence of rain water drainage from the neighborhood, his house and five cars for him and his children were damaged in front of the house, as the water level reached nearly a meter, indicating that one of the cars has a value of 280,000 riyals.
He explained that the neighborhood drowns even (with a cup of water), pointing out that any rain, even if it is light, pours on them from the mountains and gathers in front of their house, and with every drop of rain he prays to God that it be around him and not on him and his family.
Abu Ahmed pointed out that the rainwater drainage project is just steps away from homes, and everyone has been waiting for it for 8 years to be implemented, and so far it has not been implemented.
Insufficiency of the secretariat and the absence of officials
For his part, Abdullah Al-Bashiri (a volunteer in the neighborhood service and a resident of the Al-Ajaweed neighborhood) confirmed that for the fourth day of the damage to the torrential rains and last Thursday’s rain, it was noticed that the secretariat failed and the absence of those responsible for going to the neighborhood in the field and standing on the affected places.
He pointed out that there were only municipal workers with limited capabilities, who removed the damage resulting from the torrential rains and laid them on the sidewalks.
Al-Bashiri explained that the rainwater drainage project started from the center of Al-Ajaweed neighborhood and covered the main entrance to the neighborhood only.
