The Ministry of Health approved King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf to be a reference hospital for responding and dealing with nuclear and radiological accidents, as part of the project to rehabilitate reference hospitals to respond to nuclear and radiological emergencies.
The Al-Ahsa Health Assembly explained that the accreditation came following preparing the hospital and providing the basic requirements in the concerned departments, forming specialized teams to respond to all possible accidents and training them on ways and methods to confront each of them.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the project aims to apply the principles and standards of protection from radiation risks in a proper and accurate manner, in order to confront accidents related to radioactive sources, which are likely to occur, in addition to developing a comprehensive emergency plan to deal with any nuclear or radiological accidents, and mitigate their consequences for humans and the environment.
