News 24 | Health: This is what happens to the body after quitting smoking within 15 years

The Ministry of Health enumerated the advantages and benefits of quitting smoking, and its impact on health, following years of this positive step.

The ministry indicated that following 5 years of quitting smoking, the risk of stroke decreases to that of a smoker following 5 to 15 years.

She noted that following 10 years, the risk of developing lung cancer is reduced by half, and the risk of developing cancer of the mouth, throat and esophagus decreases.

She added that within 15 years, the risk of coronary heart disease decreases, and becomes equal to that of non-smokers
