ADOR has announced that NewJeans’ new MV, Cool With You, will feature two global stars. After the MV was released on Thursday (20/7/2023) at midnight South Korean time, it was revealed that the two stars were Jung Hoyeon and Tony Leung.
Jung Hoyeon or Hoyeon became known to the world through his appearance in the Squid Game. After the project, Hoyeon received many awards both domestically and in the United States. It is undeniable that his name is now known throughout the world so that he deserves to be labeled a global star.
Tony Leung on the other hand is a phenomenal legendary actor from Hong Kong. His appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings several years ago caught the world’s attention, although his career in Hong Kong cinema is no longer in question. Tony Leung is also among the highest paid actors, especially following his appearance in the Marvel Studios film.
Tony Leung is said to have earned USD 7.7 million (equivalent to Rp. 115.3 billion) for his appearance in Shang-Chi. That number skyrocketed for his next project, a film called No Name, which he also starred in. For the second film mentioned, Tony Leung is predicted to receive a salary of USD 9.2 million (equivalent to Rp. 137.8 billion).
Hoyeon became the main star in the NewJeans Cool With You MV which was released in two versions: Side A and Side B. The two MVs have stories that are connected to each other. Side A features the beginning of the story of the mysterious character Hoyeon who suddenly falls in love with a man (played by Micol Vela). Side B tells the continuation of that relationship which unfortunately had to be destroyed because of the figure of the man in black, played by Tony Leung.

Tony Leung only appears for regarding 15 seconds throughout the 4 minute 16 second MV Side B. There he was just standing at the end of the road when the characters Hoyeon and Micol Vela were regarding to cross. Tony Leung stood behind Micol Vela and flashed a smile at the terrified Hoyeon. After that he passed and the MV reached the end.
Tony Leung’s brief appearance in the NewJeans MV might also be very well paid. Although ADOR, as the NewJeans agency, did not disclose details regarding the actor’s payment for appearing in the MV, which is guaranteed to be one of the most discussed MVs for the rest of July.
