The chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team has announced a 17-member squad for the T20I series against New Zealand in January, which includes a large number of young players.
Chief selector Wahab Riaz announced the squad for Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand while holding a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday.
Pakistan will play five T20 matches against New Zealand in this series starting from January 12.
This will be Shaheen Shah Afridi’s first time leading the Pakistan team.

Fast bowlers Naseem Shah, Ehsanullah and Shadab Khan are not part of the squad due to injuries, while Shaan Masood, Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Haris, who has been with the team for a long time, have also not been included in the squad.
Right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Abbas Afridi, wicket-keeper batsman Haseebullah and leg-spinner Usama Mir have been included in the squad for the first time based on their performance in the domestic season.
Apart from them, Sahibzada Farhan, who made his T20 debut for Pakistan in 2018, has returned to the squad after a fine performance in the National T20 Cup 2023-24.

Pakistan’s chief selector Wahab Riaz says that considering New Zealand’s conditions, Pakistan has added six fast bowlers Aamir Jamal, Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf, Muhammad Wasim Jr., Muhammad Abbas Afridi and Shaheen Afridi.
The Pakistani squad will leave Lahore for New Zealand on January 3, 2024, while the players who are currently in Australia for the Test series will join them on January 8, 2024.
