New Zealand bowler joins Dhoni in number of sixes; Maybe Dhoni will fall before him tomorrow

Former Indian skipper and cricket legend M.S. New Zealand captain Tim Southee came with Dhoni. Southee joins Dhoni in the list of players who have hit the most number of sixes in the Test format.

Southee achieved this feat in the ongoing England-New Zealand Test series.

On the second day of the second Test, Southee hit two sixes with Dhoni. Before this Test, Dhoni had hit 76 sixes from 91 matches, just two sixes less than Dhoni.

However, Southee came close to Dhoni’s record following performing well at number nine. The player was strong in the Kiwis innings by scoring 23 runs without getting out from 18 balls.

If the player follows the same form on the third day of the match, he may break Dhoni’s record as well.

Currently, Southee is 14th in the list of most sixes in Tests. Southee is also the pure bowler who has hit the most number of sixes in this list.

Southee is the third New Zealander to feature in this list following six-footers Brendon McCullum and Chris Crane.

Southee also holds the record of being the first pacer to take 700 wickets for New Zealand. Southee played 92 Test matches for New Zealand and scored 1898 runs including five fifties. The star’s highest score is 77*.

Meanwhile, New Zealand, who lost the first Test once morest England, are smelling danger in the second Test. At the end of the second day, the team scored 138 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 42 overs. Kiwis need to add 97 more runs in the first innings to avoid the threat of follow on.

In the first innings of the second Test, Tom Latham and Henty Nicholls held on. Latham scored 35 runs from 76 balls while Nicholls scored 30 runs from 38 balls.

Kiwi fans are relieved that the wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blundell, who led New Zealand’s innings in the first Test, is at the crease without getting out. The player remains at the crease following scoring 25 runs from 55 balls.

England had lost the toss and went into bat. England had built a huge score on the strength of Joe Root and Harry Brook’s innings. Joe Root scored 154 not out and Brook scored 186. Finally, England declared the innings for 435 runs with two wickets in hand in 87.1 overs.
