The newspaper, citing two sources familiar with the discussion, reported that this was the first conversation to be revealed publicly since Trump left the White House.

It is unclear what Trump and Bin Salman discussed or whether this was their only conversation since the end of Trump’s presidency in 2021.

This comes at a time when the Biden administration is engaged in sensitive negotiations with the Saudis aimed at establishing lasting peace in the Middle East, an Israeli commitment to the two-state solution, a US-Saudi defense treaty, and US-Saudi understandings regarding a civilian nuclear program in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to the newspaper.

The newspaper pointed out that Trump has other reasons to maintain his good relations with Bin Salman, as the former president and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law and former senior advisor to the White House, established close relations with the Saudi Crown Prince while they were in office, and they have benefited from this in their own business since they left power. .

The New York Times noted that “the Saudi Crown Prince is not the only foreign leader that Trump has dealt with recently. Last month, he hosted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, which is the second meeting between the two men in the past two years.”
