There are a number of allegations once morest ex-US President Trump. One of them: He is said to have reduced or increased his company finances as needed in order to have financial advantages. The New York prosecutor’s office is now suing him.

New York State Attorneys are filing a civil lawsuit once morest former US President Donald Trump for fraud. Charges will also be brought once morest Trump’s company and his children Donald Junior, Eric and Ivanka, Attorney General Letitia James announced.

James says he is seeking fines totaling $250 million. In addition, Trump and his family should be banned forever from doing business in upstate New York.

“Billions of dollars inflated assets”

According to the allegations, the defendants are said to have increased or decreased their finances depending on their needs, for example to get easier access to loans or to pay less taxes. It is regarding annual information on the financial situation from 2011 to 2021. Deutsche Bank is said to have granted such loans, said James.

“Donald Trump falsely inflated his fortune by billions of dollars to unfairly enrich himself and to trick the system – and by extension all of us,” James said. She has led civil investigations into Trump’s corporate empire for three years and, according to current information, spoke to 65 witnesses for the prosecution and evaluated “millions of documents”.

Lawyer: “Absolutely no wrongdoing”

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba accused Democrat James of pursuing a purely political agenda with her unfounded allegations. “It is quite clear that the Attorney General’s Office has exceeded its statutory powers by snooping around in cases where there was absolutely no wrongdoing,” Habba said. “We are confident that our legal system will not condone this uncontrolled abuse of office.”

In the United States, Attorneys General usually belong to a party and are elected by the people in many states. James is a member of the Democratic Party and serves in the New York state government. Trump, who belongs to the Republican Party, therefore repeatedly describes the process as politically motivated and calls it a “witch hunt”.

Trump hinted at running once more

There are allegations once morest the former president in many instances. Among other things, the FBI confidential and classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate have ensured. In the state of Georgia, he is said to have unlawfully pressured the election commission to show him additional votes in the 2020 election. A committee of inquiry is also looking into his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol and may ultimately recommend prosecuting him.

Trump has repeatedly indicated that he wants to run once more for president in 2024, but has not yet officially announced this. Experts believe it is unlikely that one of the often multi-year procedures with opportunities for revision and renegotiation before the November 2024 election would lead to a conviction.
