About a month following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a major exhibition regarding the British royal family opens in New York’s Metropolitan Museum. Starting Monday, The Tudors: Art and Majesty in Renaissance England will explore the period between 1485 and 1603, from King Henry VII to Queen Elizabeth I, and will bring the “impressive dignity and compelling drama” of the House of Tudor to life awaken, said the Austrian museum director Max Hollein.
More than 100 objects can be seen until January 2023, including suits of armour, carpets, candlesticks and paintings, among others by the 16th-century Swiss-German artist Hans Holbein the Younger. Queen Elizabeth I was the namesake of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in early September – but they were only very distantly related.
