The New York Jets signed veteran offensive lineman Billy Turner, who will be reunited with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
The Jets announced the decision Monday, a week following they agreed to acquire Rodgers from the Packers.
Turner, 31, spent last season in Denver with Hackett as head coach. Turner spent the previous three years with Green Bay blocking Rodgers.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound lineman adds depth, versatility and experience at offensive tackle to compete for the starting position. Duane Brown is the possible starter at left tackle, but the right side is in question with Mekhi Becton, who missed the past two seasons except for one game with knee injuries and Max Mitchell, whose rookie season was ended with a blood clot.
Turner was selected in the third round of the 2014 draft by Miami out of North Dakota State. After two seasons with the Dolphins he was released and claimed by Baltimore and Denver days later. He played three seasons with the Broncos at tackle and guard before being signed by Green Bay as a free agent in 2019.
He spent three seasons in Hackett’s offense and was teammates with backup quarterback Tim Boyle and receiver Allen Lazard, as well as Rodgers.
