The Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi has revealed the launch of its ninth season under the slogan Arts in the Spotlight, which includes performances, panel discussions and workshops with the participation of elite international and local talents.
The event aims to invite audiences to experience a new and exceptional experience, as a number of performances are in line with the sustainability efforts of NYU Abu Dhabi as part of the UAE’s preparations to host the Climate Conference COP 28, while other performances reflect the Arts Center’s ongoing commitment to supporting the principle of inclusiveness.
Bill Bragin, Executive Artistic Director of the Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, said: “In conjunction with the UAE’s declaration of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability, we have been keen to contribute to discussions regarding climate change and the environment by presenting innovative propositions at the university and state levels, as we hope to reach inspiring discussions that link Among many issues, it focuses on discussing the arts as one of the most important global issues.
The inaugural event includes: “Now is when we are (The Stars)” written by Andrew Schneider. In his multimedia artwork, Schneider uses thousands of interactive lights and hundreds of speakers to simulate an interactive theatrical universe in a unique experience. Two versions of the work will be presented, the first is A narrative version is shown in front of eight people in the audience at a time, and the second is an installation version that is shown in front of up to 40 people, and the show starts from Thursday, August 31 to Sunday, September 3, and from Tuesday, September 5 to Sunday, September 10, from 2 :30 pm to 5:30 pm, and from 7 pm to 11 pm.
The Arts Center will also host the “Music for Koyansgatsi” on Wednesday, October 5, a cinematic event that includes a screening of the groundbreaking film by Godfrey Reggio, and the film’s score by Philip Glass.
Miwa Matric is known for its multidisciplinary shadow exhibitions and live performances. The event includes two special screenings of the short films “A Wonderful World” and “Your Limitless”, Thursday, November 16, Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18. From the shadows, between surreal and poetic narratives to depict the conflict between humans and nature and the rapid changes on our planet due to climate change and global warming.

The Emirati Al Liwa Marine Band opens the show with a dance that embodies the Emirati cultural heritage.
The Aegean Dub Foundation will meet the audience the night following the music event, on Friday 22nd September, to perform a dance party to the rhythms of loud bass, guitar and fast rap that intertwine with their origins in South Asia and fast rap.
Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto will meet her audience on Saturday, September 30th at the Red Theater, to perform a collection of her distinctive personal songs that she wrote for her father, Joao Gilberto, creator of bossa nova music, and included in the album Songs My Father Loved.
