Tonight, we can expect rather gloomy weather to end the year. The IRM predicts sometimes intense showers and the risk of a few thunderclaps. However, the weather should improve on Monday.
This evening, the weather will remain variable with sometimes intense showers and the risk of a few thunderclaps. During the night, a few more showers are expected, although the tendency for showers will decrease somewhat. We will also observe some clearings in places. The minimums will vary between 2 or 3 degrees in Hautes Fagnes, 6 to 8 degrees in the center and 9 degrees at the sea.
The southwest wind will remain quite strong or locally strong at times. On the coast, it will be strong to possibly very strong from the southwest turning towards the west-southwest at the end of the night. Risk of gusts of 60 to 70 km/h or a little more in the heaviest showers.
Improvement this January 1st
On New Year’s Day, the sky will be changeable, and rather quite cloudy in the Ardennes, with a few scattered showers. The weather might remain dry in most areas. At the end of the day cloudiness will increase from the French border, and will be followed by some light rain or drizzle in the south of the country.
The maxima will be around 4 degrees in Hautes Fagnes, between 7 and 9 in the center and close to 9 or 10 degrees at sea. The wind will initially be quite strong from the southwest before weakening following -noon to become moderate. At sea, it will be quite strong to strong from the west-southwest, then it will become moderate to quite strong. Gusts of up to 70 km/h or even very locally a little more will be possible.
In the evening and overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the sky will become overcast everywhere with periods of rain. At the end of the night, we might see drier weather in the west. The minimums reached in the evening will be between 3 degrees in Hautes-Fagnes and 8 degrees at the seaside. The southerly wind will gradually strengthen to become generally quite strong, and sometimes even strong on the coast and on the Ardennes ridges; it will turn southwest at the end of the night. Gusts of up to 70 km/h might be observed at the end of the night.
