After a two-year CoV break, there will be a New Year’s Eve trail in Vienna once more this year. The planning for this is in progress. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are once more expected in the city center at the turn of the year.

“Yes, there will be a New Year’s Eve trail once more,” confirms the office of City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke (SPÖ) to Radio Vienna. According to the City of Vienna Marketing, which is organizing the open-air New Year’s party on behalf of the city, planning is currently underway.

“We would like to pick up where we left off before the pandemic, provided there are no corona restrictions,” said Paul Weis, Head of City of Vienna Marketing. Before the pandemic caused two cancellations in a row, around 800,000 people had marched through the city celebrating the 30th edition on the night of January 1st, 2020.

Rathausplatz not included this year

The City of Vienna Marketing has not yet given any details on this year’s edition. The leader referred to early December. Then it should be announced which bands and artists are performing where. However, it is already clear that the Rathausplatz will not be part of the New Year’s Eve path this year. This has organizational reasons, according to the City of Vienna Marketing.
